The southern wine route offers exciting experiences for young and old. With this free app you can go on a journey of discovery into the past. And discover special features of the region.

The TrifelsErlebnisWeg takes you on the way from medieval Annweiler to Trifels Castle. The town of Annweiler am Trifels below the castle in the middle of the Palatinate Forest is your ideal starting point for this.

A total of 18 game and knowledge stations await you along the 3.6 km long hiking trail with the monk symbol, which you can discover with the help of the app. You will learn something about life in the Middle Ages, about eating habits and how supplies were kept in the castle, about crafts, guilds and city rights in medieval Annweiler, about life in the monastery and the duties of knights. The siblings Clara and Johann tell about their lives a few hundred years ago in AR representation. And you will meet famous personalities from the Staufer era, for example Emperor Friedrich or King Richard the Lionheart.

Short videos but also audio files always offer the opportunity to take a breather. Play stations along the way provide an ideal mix of digital and real SÜW hiking experience for young and old.

A quiz in the app also accompanies you along the way. If you got all the answers right, a surprise will be waiting for you.

The app can be used offline so that all content can be called up at any time even without network reception.

Trifels Castle is a well-known attraction in the Southern Wine Route region. Numerous points of view allow the castle to be discovered from afar. You can discover another station of the app inside the castle. Pay attention to the opening times of the castle and bear in mind that there is an admission fee to visit. In addition to the castle, the museum under the Trifels in the historic old town of Annweiler also offers an interesting exhibition on the town and castle history and is well worth a visit.

Coming soon: The Chestnut Experience Trail only touches on history. Everything here revolves around the sweet chestnuts that are so typical of the Southern Wine Route region. On the approximately 6 km long circular route you will learn a lot about the work of the foresters, about the importance of the chestnut not only in times of climate change, about protection and risks and about the use of the chestnut as food.
