VLC-RC Lite -VLC RemoteControl for PC

With VLC-RC Lite app you can control the most common functions of VLC Media Player (Play/Pause/Volume up-down/Forward-Backward(5sec,30sec,5min)/Prev-Next track) running on you host computer.

This app is absolutely free, doesn't use any of your data and shipped without ads. I just needed an app like this and the available ones on Play Store are too heavy, having ads at annoying positions or simply don't work. It's a simple hobby app, I don't earn many from it at all, please consider this when rating ;)


To be able to control VLC media player on your host via VLC-RC Lite app you have to change http settings in VLC, open port for VLC on your host operating system's firewall to be able to accept control functions from VLC-RC Lite app and connect your phone/tablet running VLC-RC Lite to the same local network where VLC host is.

A bit more detailed way:

1. enable http control interface as a primary or extra interface, go to VLC → Tools → Preferences (select "All" radio-button) → Interface → Main interfaces → check "Web"

2. You have to restrict access to the web interface by using a simple password that can be set under VLC → Tools → Preferences (select "All" radio-button) → Interfaces → Main interfaces → Lua → Lua HTTP → Password. (Password can be as simple as only one alphanumeric character at least in case VLC 3.0.17. on which the app was mainly tested.)

You have to restart VLC to the above settings take effect.

3. VLC listens on port 8080 by default, if it's ok to you open this port for inbound/outbound connections in local network on host you are running VLC. This port number can be changed in some VLC setting, for more info please check VLC documentation. (If you need firewall port opening how to, please check one of the hundreds of manuals can be found on web depending on your operating system and its version.)

4. Check the VLC's host computer IP address. (Most probably it will be 192.168.X.Y. and doesn't change after restarts but this is a router configuration question.)

5. Connect your mobile phone via WiFi to the same local network (most probably your phone's local IP address will be 192.168.X.Z.) where the VLC on the host is running and open VLC-RC Lite settings page:
- Host IP : IP address you obtained at point 4.
- Port : VLC listening port, more info at point 3.
- User : Do not set (let it blank at least inclusive of VLC 3.0.17) as user wasn't set in VLC settings. It's only here for potential forward compatibility VLC settings change
- Password : The password you have set at point 2.
(Settings are saved when leaving Settings page)

6. By tapping "Test Connection" you can check the connection and may get error messages that may help resolve them. If test is successful you fetch the actual playlist set it on VLC in raw xml format.

7. Remote control functions should work after successful test.


Please note that the Next/Previous track buttons should be double tapped to functioning.
