The ColdChase app allows a user’s smartphone to act as a gateway between ColdChase sensor beacons and the ColdChase web UI. When running, it will scan using Bluetooth (BLE) for nearby ColdChase sensor beacons that have been assigned to a shipment using the ColdChase web UI, gather the collected sensor data from the beacons along with location data from the phone, and update the corresponding dashboard on the web UI via the phone’s cellular or WiFi connection.

Upon opening the ColdChase app, there will be a prompt to name the device. This can be whatever you like, and will be sent with the data to the web UI.

There will also be a warning message to guide the user to where they can allow the app to ignore battery optimizations, to try to avoid having it delayed when the phone dozes.

Please note that even with this setting, the ColdChase app may still get delayed if the phone enters doze mode after sitting idle for a long time depending on your model of phone and version of Android. To ensure that the ColdChase app continually sends regular updates over a long period of time, the phone should be plugged in and charging.

This step may be different depending on the model of the phone. For example, on LG phones, the prompt brings the user to the “Power saving exclusions” page, where tapping on the ColdChase app excludes it from battery optimizations.

Whereas, on Samsung phones, the prompt brings the user to the “Optimize battery usage” page, where after selecting “All apps”, the user can tap on the ColdChase app to disable battery optimization.

Upon returning to the ColdChase app, tapping Start gets the ColdChase app to start running and scanning for ColdChase sensor beacons. If necessary, it will prompt the user to give it access to Location services for tracking purposes. The user should select "Allow ll the time" in order to receive location updates while the app is in the background.

Tapping Stop will stop the app from running. It will try to send out any data it has collected, so the button might spin for a while before the app fully stops.
