Christ the Redeemer for PC

Christ the Redeemer is the statue of Christ, one of the city's symbols, located on Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

It is located in the lower part of the mountain in the Tijuca National Park. Corcovado is at an altitude of 710 m and offers a magnificent view of the city. The Corcovado mountain train follows a winding road until it reaches the top of the mountain. The statue of Christ the Redeemer was selected as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World on July 7, 2007.

The statue of Christ the Redeemer was designed by Heitor Silva Costa and built within five years by French sculptor Paul Landowski.

The construction of the Christ the Redeemer statue was started in 1922 in Rio de Janeiro, which was the country's capital at that time, in honor of the 100th anniversary of Brazil's independence and was opened to visitors with an official ceremony on October 12, 1931. The 30 m tall colossal statue stands on an 8 m high pedestal and weighs 1,145 tons. Only the head of the Christ the Redeemer statue is 3.75 m high and weighs 30 tons. The width of its outstretched arms is 30 m. Concrete was used as the construction material, and soapstone was used as a layer on it. Today, about 1 million tourists visit the Christ the Redeemer statue annually.

A similar statue was built on the 793 m high Pico Isabel de Torres Mountain in Puerto Plata in the north of the Dominican Republic.

On December 1, 1999, Austrian base jumper Felix Baumgartner parachuted from the right arm of the Christ the Redeemer statue. Before the jump, Baumgartner climbed the statue with a rope that he threw with an arrow.
