The Samsung S95C OLED TV is a premium and well-rounded TV that impressed in our benchmark testing across-the-board. Upgrades compared to the previous-gen model show Samsung is taking OLED seriously, plus the set is great for gamers.
The Samsung S95C OLED TV was one of the most anticipated TVs of the year. As a reminder, it’s the company’s second shot at QD-OLED, the panel technology that promises a brighter OLED experience thanks to the addition of quantum dots. And though we had some reservations about Samsung’s new TV category the first time around, the S95C has upgrades that move the needle.
For one, the set’s design is slimmer than the previous-gen Samsung S95B OLED TV and comes in a new 77-inch configuration. It also features the One Connect Box for cable management. PC gamers will benefit from a 144Hz refresh rate, while a significant boost to brightness improves performance across all kinds of content and viewing environments.
It’s easy to recommend the S95C as one of the best TVs you can buy right now. That said, take a look at our full Samsung S95C OLED TV review below to see if it’s the right TV for you based on our in-depth testing.
Samsung S95C (QE65S95C) review
One of the most technically capable TVs there’s ever been Tested at £3599 / AU$4199
What Hi-Fi? Verdict
The S95C is an astonishingly capable TV that’s held back from true greatness by a slight lack of picture subtlety
We’ve been talking about QD-OLED for so long, it’s easy to forget that the very first QD-OLED TV arrived in shops only a year ago. Said TV, the Samsung S95B, certainly set the cat amongst the pigeons when it burst onto the scene, thanks to its combination of OLED’s pixel-level contrast control and QLED’s colour vibrancy and (some of its) extra brightness.
It’s a great TV, too, receiving the full five stars in our review, but it is worth remembering that it’s a first-gen product – and something of a toe in the water for a company with a long-standing anti-OLED stance.
For 2023, Samsung is venturing a little further into the vibrant blue waters of QD-OLED with a two-model range, of which this S95C is the flagship model. Unlike the step-down S90C, which is in spec terms very much like last year’s S95B, the S95C boasts second-generation QD-OLED technology that promises vastly higher peak brightness and, we’re told, greater durability. It also has a One Connect box to keep cables away from the display and, to these eyes, one of the most stylish overall designs of any TV you can currently buy.
In theory, this is Samsung properly delivering on the promise of QD-OLED technology, and it’s fair to say that it’s one of the most technically capable TVs we have ever tested. It’s not, though, the best TV you can currently buy, particularly on a performance-per-pound basis.
The Samsung S95C OLED is a high-end 4k TV in Samsung's 2023 lineup, and it replaces the 2022 Samsung S95B OLED. There are a few design changes compared to the 2022 version, as the S95C uses Samsung's Slim One Connect external input box and has a sleeker, more uniform design. It's powered by Samsung's Neural Quantum Processor 4k, which was first introduced in 2022 and is designed to deliver better upscaling, optimized on a scene-by-scene basis. It's also a gaming powerhouse, with a fast 144Hz refresh rate for PC gaming and support for HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four ports. Like other Samsung TVs, it uses Samsung's proprietary Tizen OS smart interface, which offers a large selection of apps and games.
I’ve been looking forward to this review for months. Since visiting Samsung Display at CES 2023 earlier this year and learning about significant improvements to its second generation of quantum dot OLED (QD-OLED) panels, I’ve been expecting the S95C would offer everything that made 2022’s S95B such a beautiful TV, plus higher brightness, sleeker design, and better features.
