The Brother ADS-1250W ($229.99) is a sheet-feed portable scanner designed for capturing multipage documents while you're away from the office. It performs similar to and has several features in common with our Editors' Choice Epson WorkForce ES-300W, except it lacks one key perk: a battery for running off the cord. If you don't mind being tethered to a power outlet or PC, though, this fast and accurate scanner will serve you well on the road.

At 3.3 by 11.8 by 4.1 inches (HWD) and weighing 3.7 pounds, it's about a half-an-inch bigger all the way around and a half-pound heavier than Epson's flagship portable document scanner, the ES-300W ($249.99 at Amazon)(Opens in a new window) , and that's despite the Epson model's built-in battery.

Brother ADS-1250W is a wireless, compact, and portable scanner. This device is capable of reaching 50 images per minute; 2-sided sheets in a single pass with it’s dual CIS 600 dpi sensor. Your documents can be scanned to a USB drive, to a PC, and also to your Google Drive or DropBox. It’s also equipped with an OCR feature, allowing you to create searchable PDF files and Word documents out of your scans.


The good part: Wifi Connection, 600dpi, Duplex scanning, Cloud integration, OCR included.

The bad part: Frequent paper jams, included software comes with too much stuff you don’t need.


Designed for efficiency and portability, the Brother ADS-1250W is a wireless document scanner offering both AC and USB power options, as well as the ability to save documents via wired USB connection or over Wi-Fi. The scanner has an optical resolution of 600 x 600 dpi, a maximum interpolated resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi, and 24-bit color depth along with a quick scanning rate of up to 25 ppm. An integrated 20-sheet ADF also has a single-pass design to easily accommodate both single- and double-sided documents, and a dedicated card slot is featured for scanning plastic cards. It is rated with a daily duty cycle of 1000 sheets for longevity and features a standard USB 3.0 connection.
