AR Campus KhPI for PC

AR-navigation is one of the interactive ways of using augmented reality. By displaying virtual guides in physical space with a smartphone, users can navigate from point to point more efficiently than comparing a map to their surroundings. Due to this great advantage, AR-navigation can help in searching both inside the educational buildings and on the territory of the institute. In this work, the authors used 3DUnity and AR Foundation to create a navigation system for the territory of KhPI National Technical University using augmented reality technology. This development will allow you to navigate in the KhPI campus, find the location of the desired building, and also view the route from building to building on the map. The entire process is displayed on the smartphone screen. Real-time synchronization allows users to experience the virtual space in the real world, enhancing the impact and interaction, making the effect more vivid and almost real.

Today, NTU "KhPI" is the largest educational center in the east of Ukraine and the largest university in the city of Kharkiv. About 26,000 students from various cities of Ukraine and foreign countries study at the university. The area of ​​the campus is 106.6 hectares. There are about 20 buildings on the territory of the KhPI NTU campus. When working with location data from mobile devices, finding the required building can be difficult and problematic.
Therefore, in this paper, one of the ways to solve the problem was proposed - to develop a navigation system on the territory of KhPI National Technical University based on augmented reality.
Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that allows people to overlay a variety of digital content on a real-world environment. Augmented reality navigation is an innovative solution. The main purpose of this technology is to provide the user with on-screen instructions that are superimposed on the real world that he sees through the smartphone camera.
By showing the user virtual landmarks in physical space with the help of a smartphone, it is possible to move from point to point more efficiently than comparing a map with the environment. Thanks to this advantage, AR-navigation can help to navigate both in buildings and on the territory of the institute.
Routes and navigation were created using AR Foundation and Unity functionality. For the pedestrian route in the application, the possibilities of existing algorithms were analyzed and the most suitable - the Destrea algorithm - was chosen. The feature integrates with the Mapbox Directions API to create real-time augmented reality walking routes, allowing the app user to view directions and navigation instructions.
The map interface can be used to place markers on the map, bind AR and GPS location data to those markers, and export the generated data file for use in Unity 3D. At the same time, a developed module is connected to determine the location of AR and GPS, which automatically creates objects in certain places.
The map developed by the authors based on augmented reality technology will help new visitors navigate the territory of KhPI National Technical University, find the location of the required educational building and see the shortest and best route to it on the map. Synchronization of actions in real time will allow users to experience the virtual space on the smartphone screen and thereby increase the excitement of learning.
