Origin of the Australian parakeet

Like its name, this bird tells us that it comes from Australia. Generally, we can find them throughout the country, except in coastal areas. This is because the Australian parakeet usually lives in areas with trees, although they are nomadic and, along with other birds of their species, move around to look for food and water.

These birds left Australia and arrived in Europe in the 19th century. There, they began to breed and reproduce in captivity and cages. Thus began the popularity of this species in almost the entire world.

The Australian parakeet is a small or medium-sized bird. It measures about 18 centimeters from the head to the tip of the tail. It is a small bird and its weight ranges from 35 grams. On the other hand, taking into account your size, it has large wings, measuring about 10 cm.

As for its colors, the wild variety parakeet has light green lower parts of its body with a yellow head. The upper part of its body and wings have black waves, although always with a greenish background. The throat and forehead area is yellow. The beak is another of its peculiar characteristics, since it is curved downwards and has a greenish gray color. As for the legs, bluish-gray, they are made up of two fingers forward and two backwards. This allows them to climb trees and feed on seeds.

However, modern Australian parakeets are larger and have more color varieties than the original Australian ones. We can find in some stores blue, yellow, gray, violet parakeets...
