The Samsung Q80/Q80B QLED is a mid-range 4k TV in Samsung's 2022 regular QLED lineup. It replaces the Samsung Q80/Q80A QLED, sitting below the Samsung QN85B QLED in the higher-end Mini LED lineup, and above the Samsung Q70/Q70B QLED. With a quantum dot layer, it displays a wider range of colors compared to traditional LCD TVs. It has gaming features like variable refresh rate (VRR) support and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four ports. It comes with the same user-friendly Tizen platform but with a few new features added, like the ability to choose between Google Assistant, Alexa, and Bixby for the voice assistant, as well as support for Google Duo, allowing you to make video calls with a compatible webcam. It's available in a few different size variants, but some don't perform like the others, as the 50 inch version has fewer features, and both the 50 inch and 85 inch models have a different panel.

Tom's Guide Verdict
The Samsung Q80B QLED TV (QN50Q80BAF) isn’t ideal for everyone (including gamers), but for most people its picture, sound, and price make it a midrange TV worth considering.

The Samsung Q80B QLED TV (QN50Q80BAF) may be the middle child in terms of Samsung’s overall suite of offerings and its price ($949.99 as tested). But one eyeful and earful of what it can do could deceive you into thinking it’s a higher-end set. Utilizing a number of Samsung’s most forward-looking technologies, and loaded with attractive features, the Q80B is a set that will easily earn its pride of place in your living room.

That’s not to say the Q80B is problem-free. Its picture isn’t perfect in every situation; and though every larger size has HDMI 2.1 ports — including the 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch and 85-inch models — they’re absent on the 50-inch model (which we evaluated), so the set is better for watching than for gaming. Still, the Q80B is a good choice for the right situation, and definitely one of the best TVs you’re likely to find at this price range.

Parked defiantly on the lawns of similarly priced OLED TVs, the Samsung Q80B QLED is a well-heeled 4K performer with obvious appeal to gamers and bright room viewers.

Not only is the Q80B a head-turner in the picture stakes – that's what QLED is all about: Quantum Dots and ultra-brightness – but all inputs support High Frame Rate (HFR) gameplay, and it’s bolstered by Samsung’s now mature Tizen smart platform.

T3 VERDICT
The Samsung Q80B is an impressive option if your budget won’t stretch to Samsung’s higher-numbered Neo QLED Mini LED models. The Q80B's vibrant picture performance is easy to like, there’s high frame rate gaming support, plus a solid smart platform with plenty of streaming options.

TechRadar Verdict
The Samsung Q80B is ideal for bright room viewing, boasts an excellent smart TV streaming platform in Tizen and supports high frame rate gaming. Even its Object Tracking Sound system cuts muster. The only caveats are black level performance, which is hampered by mediocre local dimming, and lack of Dolby Vision. Not a telly for home cinephiles then, but everyone else should shortlist it…

SAMSUNG Q80B: ONE-MINUTE REVIEW
The Samsung Q80B is a high value mid range 4k QLED screen that’s well suited for everyday TV viewing and console gaming. It’s positioned just below the brand’s Mini LED Neo QLED models, offering a more conventional full array backlight instead. This means it doesn’t offer the black level performance or the HDR precision of its more expensive stablemates.

However, with four HFR (high frame rate) compatible HDMI inputs, useful Game Bar user interface and a polished smart home interface, only serious home cinephiles are likely to feel shortchanged.
