Having a school of thought, is it obligatory?, a question on a problem that has the consequences of syar'iy law. In a sense, if having a school of law is obligatory, then the consequence is, for people who do not have a school of law, they will sin. This is because the term obligatory in Islamic law is defined as a matter which, if abandoned, will have the implication of sin. However, if the law of the school is not obligatory, then, is the law sunnah, mubah, makruh, or even haram?

To answer these questions, systematically, at least several problems will be described. First, the nature of the sect. Second, the nature of the school. Third, the law of the muqollid school. Fourth, is it obligatory to practice one school of thought?
