Imad al-Din Abu al-Fida Ismail bin Omar al-Basri, then al-Dimashqi, the author of the famous interpretation known as the interpretation of Ibn Katheer. He was born in Basra, then he moved to Damascus with his brother in the year 706 AH after the death of his father. He heard from the scholars of Damascus and took from them the example of Al-Amidi and Ibn Taymiyyah, with whom he had a special relationship, and Ibn Katheer was harmed because of it.
Ibn Katheer was from a house of knowledge and literature, and he was a student of the great scholars of his time, so he grew up as a scholar with perfect confidence, and he was a prolific scholar and an imam in interpretation, hadith, and history. Because he was distinguished by his care for the traditions and his avoidance of false sayings and reprehensible narrations.
Ibn Katheer died after losing his sight, and was buried in Damascus.
