History of the Koran

The little book in pdf format that you are reading is a historical account of the Koran. That's why the author gave the big title of this book: History of the Koran.

However, if detailed further, the author wants to try to make the contents into a kind of short note about how the story and history of the Koran, starting from the beginning was revealed until finally it became the Mushaf of the Koran that we know today.

It turns out that the storyline is quite long and winding, involving many events from time to time. There was an early period when the Al-Quran was revealed for the first time simultaneously from Lauhil Mahfudz or from Allah SWT to the heavens of the world. We then know it as the great event of Lailatul Qadar. Such a glorious night, so that for the people of the Prophet Muhammad SAW it was made the night of the quantum leap, aka the value of worship on that night is better than a thousand months.

Then the story about the start of the revelation of the Koran little by little during the prophethood of Muhammad SAW. It begins with the first five verses of Surah Al-'Alaq. We call the night where the event took place as Nuzulul Quran as well. Every year we commemorate on the night of the 17th of Ramadan.

Then the journey of the Al-Quran began to experience the process of writing by the noble hands of the Companions, under the direct supervision and supervision of Rasulullah SAW.

After the death of Rasulullah SAW, it seems that the history of the Koran still continues for several episodes. During the time of Abu Bakr, pieces of the handwriting of the Companions were arranged in such a way, ordered verse by verse, then letter by letter. Then it was kept by Caliph Abu Bakr until the time of Caliph Umar bin Al-Khattab radhiyallahuanhu.

During the caliphate of Uthman bin Al-Affan, the history of the Koran was still continuing. This time the writing of the Al-Quran underwent standardization, both the technical writing of the letters, as well as how to publish several versions of the standard mushaf which could accommodate all the various mutawatir qiraats.

This book should still have a sequel, namely the history of how the next generation made improvements for the sake of perfecting the Mushaf. But for the time being, the author will suffice until the time of Caliph Uthman bin Al-Affan. Maybe later a sequel will be made which will be the next addition to historical data for the Al-Quran.

Hopefully what the author describes on these few pages can be used as a form of our service to the noble holy book, namely Al-Quran Al-Karim.

As the saying goes: if you don't know, you don't love. The more we know the Al-Quran, it is hoped that the greater our love for it will be.
