Definition of Hadhana

In Islamic jurisprudence, the term parenting is known as hadhanah. The word hadhanah itself comes from the Arabic language, which means taking care of children, embracing children, or hadhinatun babysitters.

In the book Al-Mushthalahat Al-Fiqhiyyah, hadhanah with the letter fathah ha which is mashdar from the word hadhana yahdhunu which means raising or caring for small children. with the letter kasrah ha means Al-Janbu beside or on the side because a nanny makes the child always gather by her side 3.

Whereas hadhanah according to the term is the maintenance of children who have not been able to independently take care of themselves, provide proper education, and protect them from something that destroys them or harms them.

Child rearing is essentially the fulfillment of various aspects of the child's primary and secondary needs. Child care covers various aspects such as education, health, security, and all aspects related to their daily needs.

In Islamic teachings it is explained that economic responsibility rests with the husband as the head of the household, although this does not rule out the possibility that the responsibility will shift to the wife to help her husband if the husband is unable to carry out his obligations.

Therefore, it is very important to realize cooperation and mutual assistance between husband and wife in caring for children until they grow up. What is meant in principle is the responsibility of husband and wife to their children.
