Ahkam interpretation is one of the various styles of interpretation of the Qur'an. Where this pattern focuses more on the interpretation of verses of the Koran which have the potential to become the basis of fiqh law. As the verses of ahkam are interpreted as verses of the Koran which contain a series of commands and prohibitions, or other fiqh issues. 1

Ahkam interpretation is defined by Nuruddin 'Itr as follows:

The method of interpreting the Koran which focuses on studying legal verses and the method of carrying out istinbath/digging out the law from these verses.

In this definition, there are at least three important terms in the process of interpreting ahkam, namely: ayat ahkam, ahkam, and istinbath ahkam (an explanation of istinbath ahkam will be discussed in the sub-chapter of istinbath theory of law in the verses of the Qur'an).
