There is a slight difference of opinion among scholars about when the Friday prayer was first prescribed. Some say that his order came down in the Medina period, but some others say his order came down in Mecca.

The first opinion says that the first time it was prescribed for Friday prayers was in Medina Al-Munawarah, when Rasulullah SAW had arrived there. At that time, the ninth verse of Surah Al-Jumuah came down.

O you who believe, when called upon to perform Friday prayers, then hasten to remember Allah and leave buying and selling. That is better for you if you know. (QS. Al-Jumu'ah: 9)

However, the first Friday prayer in history was not performed at the Nabawi Mosque, but at the Bani Salim bin Auf clan mosque, which is located in the middle of the valley where the people live.

According to this first opinion, the place where it happened was when Rasulullah SAW passed by that tribe on his way to the middle of Medina, but at that time had not yet reached the establishment of the An-Nabawi mosque.
