The Chu River-Han boundary is the dividing line on the chess board, which originated from the Chu-Han War. Existing notation generally uses four words to record the movement of chess pieces.
The first word indicates the piece that needs to be moved.
The second word represents the straight line code of the moving chess piece (the red and black sides are counted from right to left from the bottom line of one's own side), the red side is represented by Chinese characters, and the black side is represented by Arabic numerals. When there are two identical chess pieces on the same straight line, the difference between the front and the back is adopted, such as "back car flat four", "front horse advances 7".
The third word indicates the direction of chess piece movement, "flat" is used for horizontal movement, "advance" is used for advancing to the opponent's bottom line, and "retreat" is used for retreating to one's own bottom line.
The fourth character is divided into two categories: when the chess piece advances and retreats on a straight line, it indicates the number of steps the chess piece advances and retreats; when the chess piece moves horizontally or obliquely, it indicates the number of the straight line reached.

Basic play
Shuai (General): Shuai (General) is the leader in chess and the goal that both sides strive for. It can only move within the nine palaces, it can go up or down, left or right, and it can only move one grid vertically or horizontally each time it moves. Shuai and Jiang cannot face each other directly on the same straight line, otherwise they will lose.
Shi (scholar): Shi (scholar) is the personal bodyguard of the general (handsome), and it can only move around in the Nine Palaces. Its chess path only has four oblique lines in the nine palaces.
Phase (image): The main function of phase (image) is to defend and protect one's handsome (general). Its way of walking is to walk two squares diagonally at a time, commonly known as "Xiangfeitian". The range of activities of the phase (xiang) is limited to its own position within the river boundary, and it cannot cross the river, and if there is a chess piece in the center of the field it moves, it cannot move, commonly known as "blocked elephant eyes".
Rook: The rook is the most powerful in chess. It can walk regardless of horizontal or vertical lines. As long as there are no pieces blocking it, the number of steps is not limited. Therefore, one car can control seventeen points, so it is called "one car with ten sons cold".
Cannon: The cannon moves exactly the same as the rook when it does not capture. When capturing a piece, there must be a space between one's own and the opponent's pieces (regardless of the opponent's or one's own pieces). Cannon is the only chess type that can surpass pieces in chess.
Horse: The way for a horse to walk is to keep a slant, that is, to walk one square horizontally or straightly, and then to walk a diagonal line, commonly known as "horse walking day". The selection points that a horse can walk at one time can reach eight points around it, so there is a saying of "eight sides of majesty". If there are other chess pieces blocking the direction to go, the horse will not be able to walk over, commonly known as "crazy horse legs".
Soldiers (pawns): Before crossing the river, soldiers (pawns) can only walk forward step by step. After crossing the river, they are allowed to move left and right except that they cannot retreat, but they can only move one step at a time.
